I’m a regular bubble tea drinker, who has noticed that a lot of people don’t even know what bubble tea is.

Bubble tea is a tea-based drink that was invented in Taiwan, but it’s slowly becoming more popular elsewhere. Most bubble teas contain a fruit-flavored or milk-flavored base, syrup and tapioca pearls. Tapioca is a starch that’s extracted from the cassava root. The pearls are more commonly known as boba.

I do think that pearls and boba sound much more appealing than balls. I always tend to compare the tapioca pearls to gummy bears. However, when you bite into a tapioca pearl, it pops. And yet, they are still chewy. Most people are a bit afraid of the swimming orbs at the bottom of their drink, but the syrup inside the pearls tastes great. The combination of the different textures is simply unfamiliar.

Nowadays, bubble tea is known by many names, such as boba tea, bubble drink and pearl tea. In addition, each shop has his own way of making bubble tea; therefore, there are many different recipes. Some shops may serve hot bubble tea, others may have yogurt filled tapioca pearls.

You may have to try a couple of flavors before you find your favorite. The first time that I tried bubble tea, I picked a lychee flavored base, but I really didn’t like it.

When I’m feeling adventurous I pick new flavors and combinations, but most of the time I stick to a green apple base.

Love, Izzy
