Your skin is the mirror of your health. It’s the canvas on which life is drawing every one of your pains and worries. It is the largest human organ, but not all that is big is tough. Your skin is in many ways your most sensitive organ.
It’s a true fighter that tries to cope with your desire to expose yourself to the sun, cold weather, wind, dust, polluted air, you name it. So, what it is that threatens your skin, and what can you do to protect it?
The Three No-no’s
The good old saying reads: Better safe than sorry. It’s the basic rule when it comes to taking care of your skin. Prevention is the mother of your health, so don’t underestimate the value of healthy habits for your skin appearance.
The first no-no is the sun. It’s understandable that you have to go out when the sun is shining, you’re not a vampire. But, when doing that, make sure you chose the proper products to protect your skin from the possible burnings and peeling.
The next no-no is smoking. Besides the many other risks it carries for your health, it can also make your skin look older and wrinkled.
The third no-no, you might have guessed, is alcohol. It can rob away your skin’s much needed moisture. So if you already have to expose your skin to this natural enemy, at least try to use as many moisturizing products as you can.
Better None than Wrong
You must be wondering what I’m trying to say here. Sometimes, even in the process of trying to take good care of your skin, you can cause a real mayhem. You can’t just go around buying products that say “for all skin types”, “hydrating”, “healthy”, and so on. There is so much more to it.
You should know your skin type, the challenges your skin is facing, and what you should/want to prevent. If necessary, consult a dermatologist. But, I’d say, opt for one cosmetic brand, and stick with it.
Don’t let the one brand be your limitation, but an opportunity. Choose a brand that has a wide range of purposes. I would stick to aspect skin products if I were you.
Stress vs. Exercise
It’s the match of the century. I think stress deserves one big knockout, don’t you? It’s the villain that is slowly ruining your skin over time. It can cause rashes, blemishes, acne, dullness and other skin issues. The fact that it is a common life passenger doesn’t mean you can’t fight back. Hit that evil pest right in between the eyes.
You can do that by finding the best way to relax, whether that is yoga, meditation, walking or a bit more energetic resistance in the form of exercise. And let’s not forget your faithful wingman in the war against stress: a good night sleep.
Your skin is your treasure, so you’re in a way obligated to cherish it. Don’t neglect it, try to dedicate some of your time to look after it. Create a healthy cleaning routine , exfoliate and keep yourself hydrated. Don’t forget to take of your makeup before going to bed!
It’s the small steps that matter. By taking them you may prolong the youthful look and vitality of your skin. So, what are you waiting for, take the first step. The next one will be much easier.
