Being a tourist in your own country is so much fun! I’ve been going on random road trips to different cities in the Netherlands and I’ve found the most amazing restaurants, cafés and shops.

Most of the time I share my adventures here, and this time it won’t be any different. We are going back to Rotterdam though, where I’ve been a couple of times now. Last time, I wanted to check out the Tea Bar. This time, we’re going to a place called Markthal, an awesome indoor market.

It’s FOOD HEAVEN if you ask me. Let me show you around.

Move over Laduree, there’s a new macaron specialist in town: De Patissier.

This store sells the most delicious macarons I’ve ever tasted. De Patissier only has one store in The Netherlands. It’s located in a town called Oegstgeest. We don’t go there very often, only on special occasions like my birthday or Christmas.

It’s quite a luxurious store that also sells the most amazing chocolates and pastry. I was super stoked when I heard that they have a flagship store at the Markthal.

So I had to pick up some of their macarons. I love the flavors Earl Grey, Pistachio, Framboos Hybiscus (Raspberry Hibiscus) and Intense Cassis (Blackcurrant)! They are so yummy.

If you ever visit the Netherlands in fall or winter, you’ll notice that a lot of food stores sell these things that we call pepernoten. Pepernoten means ‘pepper nuts’, but don’t worry no pepper came near them. Let’s call them holiday cookies. We eat them when Sinterklaas, an elderly dude who brings us gifts on the 5th of December, visits our country.

Pepernoten are made of sugar, flour, cinnamon, cloves and anise. I love chocolate covered pepernoten the most.

Van Delft also has a flagship store at the Markthal. As you can see, their pepernoten are a little bit more festive. They have a bunch of different flavors like caramel, orange and raspberry. I need to try them all!

I have a lot of nicknames, and one of them is Snow White. It’s what my family calls me because I’m so pale. So when my cousin saw these candy apples at Veldmeijers Lekkernij‘s flagship store, she had to get me one. That was so sweet of her!

We also saw the cutest decorated cupcakes and donuts at the Donut Express. I didn’t try these because I already bought too much food. I did try cannoli for the first time at this cute Italian stand called Arjaa‘s. You can see the stack of cannoli in the first picture. The ones in the front have a cappuccino filling! (My dad loved those haha).

I’m not quite sure whether I like cannoli or not. It might actually be the first dessert that I don’t really like. Maybe I need to try Buddy Valastro’s cannoli before completely making up my mind.

Don’t be alarmed if you don’t like sweets. I have a sweet tooth so I only bought desserts and candy; but you can also check out the other flagship stores that sell cheese, fish, meat, veggies, teas, spices and many more.

This is basically our first huge indoor market. Obviously, we had to do something special. So don’t forget to look up when you enter the building.

And don’t ask me how much money I spend on food that day. I don’t want to think about it haha, but everything was so delicious and so worth it!
