Hey guys, how is everyone doing? Hope everyone had a great weekend! I sure had.
I’ve been to the last Smoke + Mirrors Tour by Imagine Dragons on Friday (OH EM GEE they were AM-sings-AAAAZING) and I’ve spent most of my Saturday in Amsterdam.
My friend, who I haven’t seen in 6 MONTHS (I almost cried when I saw her. THAT’S how much you can miss someone!) and I decided to go visit the Chocoa Festival, which is basically a small scale chocolate festival in Amsterdam.
We paid €7 each so we weren’t expecting a whole lot, but we were looking forward to all the chocolate tastings! Yes, tastings.
What does that entail, you ask?
Well, there were 40-something stands and most of them were run by different chocolate sellers like Hands Off My Chocolate and Brick of Raw Chocolate.
Never heard of them? Neither have I (a).
But both sell delicious tasting chocolate. I know that now.
It wasn’t all about the tastings. You could actually learn a bunch of stuff at this festival. Like how chocolate is made, or which chocolate bars go well with beer, wine, rum or even cheese. I wonder how many of us eat chocolate and cheese. I don’t think that sounds really tasty, but who knows it might be good.
I must admit that I was a rather clueless chocoholic before I visited this festival, but lots of people enlightened me on the whole chocolate making process and all the different kinds of chocolate that’s out there.
It isn’t even that hard to make your own chocolate! You just need cocoa. You only have to keep in mind that the taste of your chocolate varies depending on where the cocoa comes from. But when you’ve got your cocoa beans, you dry them, roast them (to bring out the flavor), crack the shell, get the cocoa out (which will already smell like chocolate) and ground it. Voila, you’ve got chocolate paste.

I also found something that is every dunker’s dream!
I dip everything into my tea or coffee. Cookies, chocolate, cake, doughnuts.
And now some dude decided that he can make my dunker life easier by making these:
In Dutch they are called Chocolade Bikkels, but I’m gonna go ahead and call them chocolate balls. Cuz that’s what they are.
You put one of these in your mouth. Take a sip of coffee or tea and let the chocolate melt!
That’s so simple, but so genius. Needless to say that they sold almost every bikkel/ball they had.
We didn’t spent all day at the Chocoa Festival. We’ve been there for a couple of hours, I think. So you can easily combine a trip to the festival with a day of shopping.
We took a stroll through the city afterwards and spent a bunch of money on books (a). We also stopped by the Ici Paris XL (The only place here that sells Urban Decay, as far as I know). I want a Naked palette, but I don’t know which one to get. I kinda want the Naked 2 and Smoky…
