Although I tend to be loyal to the beauty brands that have done wonders for me, I once in a while enjoy trying out something new.

JOIK is one of those foreign brands that I fell in love with while I was on a holiday to Estonia last year.

Back then I tried JOIK’s coffee scrub and footbath salt, mostly because the products seemed like fun things to try. I was also a little bit obsessed with scrub at the time and I generally love soaking my feet as part of a Sunday pamper session.

This time I wanted to try something that would really help combat my dry skin problem; so I purchased JOIK’s body lotion.

My face and my legs always lack moisture. I honestly wish that I could bathe in moisturizer from time to time. For my face I use Clinique‘s Dramatically Different Moisturizing Lotion +, but I can’t use that on my legs, now can I? (Wait, can I?!).

I’ve been using The Body Shop’s shea body butter for my legs, but it doesn’t provide a 24 hour hydration like it says it would. Not for me anyway. And, to be honest, I’m not a fan of the shea butter scent.

That’s why I wanted something new and I ordered two different JOIK body lotions: Green Apple Body Lotion with Soothing Aloe and Safflower Oil & Velvety Body Lotion with Coconut Milk and Sheabutter (Didn’t you hate the smell of shea butter? Yeah, yeah, I’ll explain that later).

JOIK Body Lotion

JOIK‘s philosophy is this: ‘a cosmetic product should be effective, honest, as natural as possible and also offer pleasant emotions.’

So, it’s natural, looks great and smells amazing. Thumbs up.

The packaging is pretty simple, but the bottles still look very sophisticated. Both have a twist lock pump dispenser, so don’t worry about accidentally pressing it down. Just don’t forget to lock it. I may have forgotten to do so a couple of times. At least my bathroom wall got to feel pretty and moisturized…

Green Apple Body Lotion with Soothing Aloe and Safflower Oil
(150 ml)

JOIK Body Lotion

I love green apples. That’s one of the reasons why I picked this body lotion.

The second is the promise on the back: ‘Green apple body-lotion with soothing aloe juice, safflower, sunflower, coconut oil and cocoa butter calms the skin and absorbs instantly, providing quick moisture.

You’ll never make me drink aloe juice (because it’s gross), but I’ll happily put it on my body haha. Aloe absorbs toxins, it’s soothing and it contains a rich mixture of vitamins and minerals. I have an aloe foot cream, which I use when my feet are sore and it instantly helps. This means that the soothing part is definitely true.

Green apple mostly nourishes the skin. It has a bunch of vitamins and it’s a great moisturizer. Safflower oil has hydrating properties. It makes sure that your skin retains water and moisture. Sunflower oil also helps the skin to retain its moisture, but it also has a calming effect on the skin.

So lots of the ingredients are soothing, calming and moisturizing.

(All ingredients: aqua, carthamus tinctorius seed oil, cocos nucifera oil, helianthus annuus seed oil, aloe barbadensis juice, theobroma cacao seed butter, ceteareth-15 (and) glyceryl stearate, stearic acid, parfume, sodium benzoate (and) potassium sorbate, tocopherol, limonene*, benzyl benzoate*, hexyl cinnamal*, butylphenyl methylpropional*, CI 19140, CI 42090 / * components of the parfume)

The body lotion smells just like green apples! It’s a strong and lovely scent, but you won’t smell like a green apple all day.

The lotion itself is light green and has a liquid consistency. It’s like a really runny liquid foundation that might end up on the floor if you’re not careful haha.

My legs feel so soft after each use and they absorb this lotion very quickly.

Velvety Body Lotion with Coconut Milk and Sheabutter (150 ml)

JOIK Body Lotion

On the back it says: ‘Coconut and pineapple scented body lotion with nourishing coconut milk, shea butter and soothing aloe invigorates dry skin‘.

See, this body lotion doesn’t smell like shea butter. It mostly smells like pineapples, and it’s an amazing scent. I’d pick this scent over the apple one any day.

This body lotion promises to bring your skin back to life; not just by adding moisture to your skin, but by making your skin look healthier.

Aloe juice promotes healing. Coconut oil softens the skin and helps relieve dryness and flaking. Olive oil is high in antioxidants, and shea butter is hydrating and smoothing. Most of the other ingredient, again, mainly add moisture to your skin.

(All ingredients: aqua, cocos nucifera milk, olea europaea fruit oil, butyrospermum parkii fruit butter, cocos nucifera oil, aloe barbadensis juice, helianthus annuus seed oil (and) daucus catora sativa root extract (and) daucus carota sativa seed oil (and)beta carotene (and) ascorbyl palmitate, ceteareth-15 (and) glyceryl stearate, stearic acid, parfume, sodium benzoate(and) potassium sorbate, tocopherol, coumarin* * components of the parfume)

My skin was flaky and dry, but it ISN’T ANYMORE!!! This means that JOIK body lotion is here to stay.

My legs feel soft, they look better (they’ll look ever better once I shave them), and none of the ingredients gave me a rash. It even seems like my legs hold on to moisture a lot better than they used to. (Maybe I need to start using natural beauty products more often…)

Final verdict: I’ll have to restock once these babies are empty.

Do you like trying out other beauty brands? Or do you prefer to stick to the status quo?

Love, Izzy
